Visa Card Vs Master Card: Does It Really Make A Difference?

They are the two biggest credit companies in the world and operate very similarly. While there is a significant difference between other credit cards like AmEx, Diner’s club and JCB, distinguishing between Visa and Master Card is much more difficult. For one, they are both methods of payment and merchant processing systems issued by financial institutions worldwide. Both cards are widely accepted. In different ways both cards compete with various reward programs and benefits. Visa and Master Card are so similar that many consumers choose to have both. Are there any real significant differences between the two? Does choosing a Visa card vs Master card or vice versa really matter?

For most customers the decision is not really a significant one. Both cards are merchant processing systems. Neither company issues its own cards; both the Visa and Master Card logo are issued by financial institutions which offer various rewards, benefits, and features which accompany each cards. Both logos are widely accepted globally and the vast majority of merchants do not accept one and not the other.

Some important features to consider before signing up for a card may be grace periods, annual fees and interest rates. Neither Visa nor Master Card cannot ultimately be regarded as better, but some Visa cards may be more appropriate for you than some Master Cards or vice versa.

Acceptance

Worldwide Acceptance

Visa is the older, more established company, however Master Card, emerging only in the 1960’s, has grown enormously, and boasts an acceptance rate almost as high as its rival.

1.4 million ATM will provide Visa cardholders with cash advances, and 1.5 million will grant Master Card holders a cash advance if needed.

Many customers use both card types, and their card of choice depends on the features and benefits of the individual card, not its logo. There are few significant differences to motivate casual consumers to choice own company exclusively over the other. Generally merchants will accept both major credit cards. On occasion, some merchants accept one card and not the other, which may motivate some customers to prefer one card.

The vast majority of casual consumers do not notice any significant difference between either logo. Many consumers in fact use both cards interchangeably. The majority of merchants accept both cards, while a select few merchants do accept one card over the other. This may prompt some customers to choose one credit card type over the other.

Overall, however, for most consumers the primary concern is finding a card that meets their financial needs, be it Visa OR Master Card.
